What Are PFAS?
Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) are a large group of man-made chemicals used in a wide range of consumer and industrial products. They are commonly found in applications such as non-stick cookware, water and stain repellent clothing, treated carpeting, performance upholstery textiles, food packaging, and certain firefighting foams.
Forever Chemical Free
PFAS are often called “forever chemicals” because they break down very slowly in the environment and can persist for long periods of time. As a result, they can accumulate over time, leading to increased global attention, regulatory review, and concern regarding their long-term environmental and human health impact.
Same Performance
At Valdese Weavers, the health and safety of our employees, customers, and environment is a top priority. In response to growing awareness around PFAS, the company made a proactive decision to eliminate the use of these chemicals in manufacturing beginning in 2015—well ahead of widespread industry change. To replace PFAS-based technologies, Valdese Weavers has developed EASE Performance Fabrics®, an eco-forward finishing approach that maintains the same high level of performance, including stain resistance, liquid repellency, and ease of cleanability.
